Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (9-8)

CHARLOTTE 5, SYRACUSE 4 (BOX)

Joey Lucchesi was solid to start, throwing six innings and allowing two earned runs (three total), though he did have his warts on the evening. He did not miss a ton of bats, only striking out four. He walked three and allowed four hits — it was not the most impressive quality start you’ll see, but it was a solid effort. The Syracuse bullpen, however, could not hold the slim 4-3 lead they were given, however. An unearned run (due to a runner on base from an error by Sean Reid-Foley himself) surrendered by a rehabbing Sean Reid-Foley tied it at four, and the Knights walked off Yacksel Rios in the ninth.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (5-6)

GAME ONE: BINGHAMTON 4, READING 3 / 8 (BOX)

Game one was led by solid Binghamton pitching and timely hitting. Tyler Stuart put together a quality start — in performance more than name — throwing five innings of two run ball. striking out four. Daniel Juarez gave up a run in relief, and Paul Gervase was excellent to finish off the game, throwing two perfect innings.

Offensively, Binghamton came down from behind multiple times. Rhylan Thomas erased a 1-0 deficit in the third with a two-RBI double, and Rowdey Jordan tied it at three with an RBI single. Brandon McIlwain, pinch hitting in the bottom of the eighth, added another clutch hit to the docket with a bloop single into right field to walk off game one.

GAME TWO: READING 7, BINGHAMTON 4 / 8 (BOX)

Despite the score, Binghamton led 2-0 — by way of an Alex Ramirez two-RBI single — and 4-1 after RBI doubles by Rowdey Jordan and Jose Peroza. Unfortunately for Binghamton, that would be the end of the good news on the night.

The Ponies bullpen could not pick up a strong performance by Troy Miller — who threw four scoreless innings — as they surrendered three in the seventh to blow the save and three in the eighth to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (5-7)

BROOKLYN 6, JERSEY SHORE 4 (BOX)

The lone win in the organization came from the Brooklyn Cyclones, as they edged out Jersey City 6-4.

Brooklyn trailed 1-0 all the way into the seventh inning, where the offense came alive. Stanley Consuegra tied the game with a bases loaded walk, Ryan Clifford gave them the lead by getting hit by a pitch, a wild pitch chased a third run in, and another bases loaded walk — this one worked by Junior Tilien — capped off the inning.

Jersey Shore tied it in the bottom of the frame, but they immediately got the lead back, which proved permanent. Wilfredo Lara made it 5-4 with an RBI single, and Clifford added a (superfluous) insurance run with a single of his own. Justin Lawson kept the lead with a perfect inning for a save, capping off a nice win for Brooklyn.

Single-A: St. Lucie Mets (4-7)

TAMPA 9, ST. LUCIE 5 (BOX)

St. Lucie had to battle back in this one to make it a game, but Tampa was simply too much on the day for the Mets. The Tarpons ran out to a 5-1 lead by the fifth inning, and bordered on making it a laugher before the late innings. They rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the frame, making it a game again at 5-4. The comeback would last just half an inning, as Tampa dropped four runs on the Mets in the sixth inning, all but putting this game to bed.
