Jacob deGrom back-to-back Cy Young on a t-shirt!

deGrom’s historic achievement is now on a BreakingT shirt.

Earlier this week, we learned that Jacob deGrom won the National League Cy Young Award—by an overwhelming margin. That made him a back-to-back winner of the award, a rare achievement in the history of Major League Baseball. deGrom was no doubt deserving of both awards, and now there’s a shirt from BreakingT celebrating that.

In total, deGrom has been the best pitcher in baseball over the past two seasons. Between the 2018 and 2019 seasons, deGrom accumulated a 2.05 ERA, by far the best mark among qualified starting pitchers. Justin Verlander sits in second place on that list with a 2.55 ERA, which is great but a full half-run behind deGrom. Gerrit Cole, Max Scherzer, and Clayton Kershaw round out the top five.

Fittingly, Scherzer was the most recent back-to-back Cy Young winner before deGrom, and before Scherzer, Kershaw did it. Tim Lincecum and Randy Johnson are the other two pitchers to have done it this century, while Pedro Martinez, Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, Jim Palmer, Denny McLain, and Sandy Koufax were the other pitchers to accomplish the feat, with Clemens having done it twice.
